The object of this Association is to perpetuate the social relations existing among the members of the Association of Exempt Firemen of the Borough of Rockaway, and to render such assistance in case of fire as the Officers of the Association may deem proper to direct, by the advice and consent of the officers of the borough, and to do such other things consistent with the laws of the state and with permission of the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Rockaway, as may be of benefit to the members of this association.

Joseph P. Baysa 

Joseph P. Baysa, 47, of Jefferson Twp. passed away January 21, 2011. Born April 22,1963 in Glen Ridge, NJ. He was a retired police officer for Rockaway Boro. P.D. since 1999. He was formerly of Rockaway Boro, NJ before moving to Jefferson Twp. in 1998. Joseph was a Member and Past Captain of Truck # 3 of Rockaway Boro Fire Dept. He also was a shelter manager with the American Red Cross. He was an avid fisherman and he loved his cats.

Joseph is survived by his wife Amy, his parents Peter and Dorothy Baysa of PA.; two sisters Diane Mayenzet and her husband John of Denville, and Barbara Scott and her husband Jeff of VA.; and one nephew Kevin Rey.

Visitation will be from 3:00 - 6:30pm on Monday January 24, 2011 at Tuttle Funeral Home. Service to follow at 6:30pm At Tuttle Funeral Home in Dover. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Rockaway Boro. F.D. 1 E. Main St., Rockaway, 07866 or to the American Red Cross Disaster Services, 209 Fairfield rd., Fairfield NJ 07074.

Samuel J. Trapasso 

SAMUEL J. TRAPASSO AGE: 84 JENSEN BEACH, FL Samuel J. Trapasso died on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Peconic Bay Hospital in Riverhead, NY. He was 84. Born in Richmond Hill, NY, he lived in Rockaway for 67 years before moving to Jensen Beach, FL in 1999. Mr. Trapasso served as a combat veteran in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Chicago in the renowned 2nd Fleet. He was a realtor with ReMax Leading Edge Realty in Rockaway for 20 years, retiring in 1976. Prior to that, he worked as a manager with Harris Lumber for 20 years, a realtor with Merrill Lynch Realty for 6 years and a salesman with Sears-Roebuck in Dover for 8 years. Mr. Trapasso was a parishioner of St. Cecilia's Church in Rockaway, where he served as past-president of both the parish council and Holy Name Society. He was active in the Cursillo Movement of the Church and past lay Director of the Paterson Diocese. He was an Exempt member of the Rockaway Borough Fire Dept., an avid member of Friday Night Poker Club, and former originating member and president of the Rockaway Athletic Club. Sam also served as Councilman for the Borough of Rockaway for nearly a decade; he strived to promote quality of life issues for all residents of the town. He was predeceased by his wife Gloria in 2000 after 53 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Thomas J. Trapasso and his wife Evelyn of Rockaway; daughter, Joanne Trapasso of Rockaway; brother, Rev. Msgr. Thomas Trapasso of Chester; sister, Rosemary Casperson and her husband Carl of Rockaway; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov 8 at 9:15 a.m. from the Whitham - Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia's Church, Rockaway at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Cecilia's Cemetery.
