On March 9th 2005, the Rockaway Borough Fire
Department was dispatched to a smoky fire in a combination
commercial/residential building at 40 West Main Street.
Firefighter were kept busy containing the fire to an upstairs
bedroom. Mutual Aid was requested from Denville, Dover,
Rockaway Township and the Picatinney Arsenal F.A.S.T team. The
probable cause of the fire was an electrical problem, but Chief took
prudent precautions to ensure that the fire did not spread and
destroy the entire center of Rockaway Borough. Photographs by
